ALZHEIMER'S: Potential Causes and an Integrative Approach

Alzheimer's is a progressive, neurodegenerative condition that worsens over time. It is the cause of 70% of cases of dementia. There are several different integrative approaches available to help those with Alzheimer’s Disease to function better and have a more fulfilled life.

What causes Alzheimer’s? Here are 3 categories of potential ‘causes’ of Alzheimer's:

  • Toxins: Mold, pesticides, viruses, heavy metals, air pollutants

  • Medications: Statins, anti-depressants, medications for overactive bladder

  • Sugar: More recently, Alzheimer's has been coined “Type 3 Diabetes.” We know that when there is too much sugar in the diet, brain function slows down and fails to process information correctly.

Genetics can alter the ways our bodies detox these toxins and medications. Those with Alzheimer’s Disease often need more support in detoxing these toxins out of their bodies. Integrative medicine offers solutions for improving detoxification, helping naturally control blood sugar and cholesterol, and improving the brain’s function overall.
